Occasion-Ready Drapes for Mahalaya to Maha Aarti

Durga Puja is a vibe. These 9-day festivities celebrate Goddess Durga's arrival at her maternal home, beginning with Mahalaya and ending with Visarjan. And in between all of this, there are bhog queues, impromptu family photos, autorickshaw rides to pandals three neighbourhoods away, and spontaneous evening plans that require a saree that can keep up.

Durga Puja 2026 runs from 28th September to 2nd October. trueBrowns has five sarees for it, in tissue, georgette, organza, and silk blend, priced between Rs. 1,200 and Rs. 4,799, all free-size, all coming with an unstitched blouse piece. Here is how to wear them across the five days.

Saptami: trueBrowns Red Tissue Saree With Unstitched Blouse

Saptami is the first major day of Durga Puja, the morning when the festivities formally begin, the pandals fill with devotees, and the energy is electric and expectant. Red is the most auspicious and tradition-rooted color for this occasion, particularly in the Bengali tradition where red holds deep significance throughout the puja.

The trueBrowns Red Tissue Saree is a solid red tissue saree with a refined shine that catches light naturally. Tissue is lightweight and drapes beautifully without added weight or stiffness. An unstitched blouse piece is included. Pair with gold jewelry, red or gold footwear, and a classic bun with a gajra.

Ashtami: trueBrowns Pink Georgette Embroidered Saree With Unstitched Blouse

Ashtami is when you have to look your best. Bring out your heaviest sarees like trueBrowns Pink Georgette Embroidered Saree With Unstitched Blouse. It has delicate scallop detailing along the edges and intricate embroidery throughout, crafted in soft georgette that moves fluidly in a crowd rather than fighting it.

Georgette photographs beautifully under artificial pandal lighting. It doesn't flatten the way matte fabrics do, and it doesn't overexpose the way heavily metallic fabrics can. Unstitched blouse piece included. Style it with gold choker and gold studs.

Navami: trueBrowns Maroon Rust Silk Saree With Unstitched Blouse

Day 9 – Navami. The day of shondhi puja, homa, bhog, and dhunuchi nach. This is the last time of the year the pandal will feel this full and alive. The trueBrowns Maroon Rust Silk Saree is a color-block silk blend saree that combines the depth of maroon with the warmth of rust, a combination that reads as autumnal and rich in the way only October in India can.

The silk blend has a natural lustre that glows in low, warm light: precisely the light of a Navami evening. Unstitched blouse piece included. It is the most formal saree in this guide, and the right one for the most formal evening of the festival.

Dashami: trueBrowns Peach Copper Tissue Saree With Unstitched Blouse

Sindoor Khela. The goodbye. Dashami is simultaneously a celebration and a farewell, and the women who dress for it intuitively understand that the occasion requires softness. Peach copper in tissue does exactly this. The trueBrowns Peach Copper Tissue Saree is a solid tissue saree in a color that shifts between warm peach and a subtle metallic copper depending on the light, subtle in the morning, glowing by the afternoon, luminous by the time of the visarjan procession.

The same lightweight tissue construction as the red Saptami saree, but with a completely different emotional register. Unstitched blouse piece included. Given the occasion, style it with festive jewelry, white flowers in your hair, and embellished jootis because the day calls for lot of walking.

FAQs

Q1. Is it appropriate to wear a saree for pandal hopping during Durga Puja, or is a kurta set more practical?
Ans. A saree is entirely appropriate for pandal hopping and is, in fact, the traditional choice for Durga Puja across Bengal and in Bengali communities across India. The practical concerns — mobility, crowd navigation, long hours on your feet — are real but manageable with the right fabric and footwear choices. Choose a lightweight fabric like georgette or organza rather than a heavy silk or brocade saree for pandal hopping; these drape more fluidly and don't restrict movement. Wear block heels or embellished flats rather than stilettos. Pin the pallu securely with a small safety pin at the shoulder to prevent it from slipping in a crowd. With these adjustments, a saree is as practical as a kurta set for a full day of pandal visits and significantly more festive.

Q2. What jewelry works best with a tissue saree for Durga Puja?
Ans. Gold jewelry is the most natural pairing for a tissue saree. The metallic threads woven into the fabric have a warm, golden quality that echoes yellow gold specifically. Traditional Bengali jewelry is the most culturally resonant choice. If you prefer contemporary jewelry, a single statement gold jhumka with no necklace works well because tissue sarees are visually busy enough at the fabric level that a necklace can compete rather than complement. For a peach or blush-toned tissue saree, rose gold or antique gold jewelry is more flattering than bright yellow gold.

Q3. Can I wear the same saree to multiple Durga Puja occasions, or do I need a different saree for each day?
Ans. You can absolutely repeat a saree across multiple days or across different years, as sarees are among the most re-wearable garments in any Indian wardrobe. The way to make one saree feel different across occasions is to change how you style it: a different blouse, a different jewelry combination, or a different draping style (Nivi drape vs Bengali drape, for instance) can make the same saree read as an entirely different outfit. That said, most women who actively celebrate all five days of Durga Puja tend to wear at least two different sarees — one for Ashtami, which is the most photographed day, and a different one for the remaining days.

Q4. What is the difference between tissue, organza, and georgette sarees — and which one is easier to drape?
Ans. All three are lightweight festive fabrics, but they behave differently on the body. Tissue has metallic threads woven into it, giving it a structured stiffness that actually makes it one of the easier fabrics to drape; it holds its pleats well and doesn't slip. Organza is sheer and crisp, with a papery quality that also holds pleats reasonably well but can feel stiff at the pallu. Georgette is the easiest to drape of the three; it is soft, fluid, and forgiving, which is why it is often recommended for women who drape sarees infrequently or are learning to drape. If you are draping a saree yourself without help, choose georgette first. If you have someone to help you drape, tissue gives the most polished and structured finish.

Q5. How early should I get my saree blouse stitched before Durga Puja?
Ans. At least three to four weeks before the festival which means by early September for Durga Puja 2026. In the two weeks leading up to the festival, most local tailors are booked solid and either refuse new orders or charge a significant premium for urgent stitching. If you are getting a heavily embellished or structured blouse with padding or boning, account for one fitting and one alteration round, which adds another week. The safest approach is to buy your saree by mid-August, choose your blouse design by the end of August, and have your first fitting done by 10th September.
